I love living in our free-market, consumerism driven society. Unfortunately, as I was walking away, proud of my inexpensive new shoes, it occurred to me that we apply our deal-seeking thirst towards Jesus. What I mean is this. In our search for "it", is it possible that we are subconsciously looking for a good deal on Jesus the same way we look for a brand new TV? We want our Jesus to have the biggest bang for the buck that costs us the least. We want all the benefits of Jesus, but without the personal price. Read Luke 14:25-35. Jesus lets everyone know that it costs everything to follow him. It's funny isn't it? Having a relationship with Jesus costs absolutely everything...not some or a little, but everything. At first glance, that may not seem like a "good deal," but the life that Jesus gives in return is the greatest experience of 20 lifetimes! I deserve hell about one hundred times over, but Jesus took my place by dying on the cross for me. Forgive me for being a bit sacrilegious, but that sounds like one heck of a deal.
